PalHaLa Project

Goals and Intresses

PalHaLa is a research project located in the University of Jyväskylä at the faculty of mathematical information technolgy. The project's name "PalHaLa" is an abbreviation from the words: "Palvelun hallinta laajakaistaisissa ryhmälähetyksissä". PalHaLa is a follow-up to the TeraBitti project http://www.ad.jyu.fi/TeraBitti. The time frame of the project is from 1.6.2004 to 31.5.2006.

The main goal of the project is to build a pilot network, where different video services will be served to DSL customers. At least the digital television broadcast and some Video-on-Demand services will be delivered to the customers during the test phase. An authentication and access control method for the pilot network will also be developed and tested.

Admission control methods in multicast and especially on DiffServ networks is also an important research activity of the project. Three conference papers have been accepted to be published about simulations of our methods. Linux implementations of the methods will also be developed and more publications will be written on the subject.

The project plan for the first year of the project can be found from here: PalHala-Ivuosi-v4.doc and the plan for the second year from: PalHala_II.doc. An appendix 1 (detailed task list for the second project year) can be found from here: PalHaLa_jatkot.ppt.
